How to Be Sexy

Megan FoxHow is it that some women -- like Angelina Jolie and Scarlett Johansson - always look so sexy? Part of it may be the fact that they are genetically gifted, but I'd like to think fashion plays a part, too. After all, Angelina likes to make dramatic style choices and Scarlett uses things like red lipstick to leave her sultry mark.  The surprising thing about dressing sexy is that it isn't always the thigh-high skirt and in-your-face cleavage that makes these women look so sexy. So I examined the style of 10 of the sexiest celebrities -- like Beyonce and Megan Fox -- to see what tips we regular women can use to up our sexy quotient. (Photo Credit: Kevin Winter/Getty Images)

Best Fashion Sales of the Week

I love to save money, especially if I can buy stuff I really want for less. So about this time every year, I take advantage of Nordstrom's ahead-of-the-season sale where you can buy Fall's best looks for much less. And I'm about to load up my online shopping cart with Gap's Long & Lean jeans (I have about 6 pairs of them already in my closet) because for the next two days they are 30% off. I think all of you like to save money as much as I do, so I've started this new weekly feature, Best Fashion Sales of the Week, to help point you in the right direction for the best places to save money on the best stuff. Happy shopping!

Fall Trend: Colorblocking

colorblockingOne trend for fall that is a refreshing change from all the frills and ruffles of past seasons is the colorblocking trend. I like the strong graphic appeal of either bright or jewel tones for this trend.

At Lacoste (pictured, left) the colorblocking takes on an '80s feel with big chunks of brights, but the trend also takes on a sophisticated tone with Yeohlee's black-and-white poncho.

You can also get the colorblock look simply by wearing contrasting or complimentary colors together (say a black and teal or orange and brown.) (Photo Credit: Frazer Harrison/Getty Images)

What to Buy Now: Utility Tunic

utility tunicWear it now, wear it later. I love this easy Gap utility tunic (Buy Now) because it has so many possibilities. You can wear it loose over leggings or belt it with a great leather belt over skinny jeans. It comes in rich hues like this dark gray (I also like it in chocolate) that will take you through fall. Is Your Family This Chic?

smith familyAfter knocking Jada Pinkett-Smith for her pantless red carpet look, I think it's only fair that I point out how fabulous her entire family looks in this photo. I know the Smiths are celebrities and have access to all sorts of stylists and free designer clothes. But you have to admit they look pretty terrific as a family. Does your family dress this well? I had to stop and think about what my family photo might look like if we pulled out all the stops on the red carpet. Except for myself and my 8-year-old daughter, the rest of my family could care less about fashion. So as much as I love my family, we are definitely not as chic as the Smiths. You? How Old is Too Old for Over-the-Knee Boots?

stuart weitzman bootI have developed a serious crush on over-the-knee boots for fall. It's something I don't own, and I'm shopping for an amazing pair, like these suede wedges from Stuart Weitzman (Buy Direct). The only thing....I wonder if maybe, at 40-something, I'm too old to wear them. Thoughts? (Photo Credit: Shopbop.com)

Quiz: Do You Need a New Look?

I'm all for consistency, but sometimes change is a good thing in fashion. I like experimenting with lots of different looks: vintage, glam, western, preppy, edgy, etc. Has it been a while since you've changed your hairstyle or bought new makeup or experimented with a new style of anything? Take this quiz and find out if you need a new look.

Buy Now, Wear Later: Brown Platforms

diane von furstenberg sandalsAbout this time of year, my thoughts turn to fall. Yep, even when it's pushing triple digits I am dreaming of what I'll be wearing in a few months. One thing I like to do is start buying pieces that can pull me through that in-between season (garmentos call it "transition" or "trans") that spans summer and fall. I like these Diane von Furstenberg brown sandals  (Buy Direct) that will work now and later.
